More of the SOUL story:
S.O.U.L. is a grassroots organization started by Kelli Forsythe to fight the epidemic of violence to the human spirit and the consequent broken and binding relationships it results in. S.O.U.L. has been born out of stories of the human spirit: stories about HURTING, finding HELP, and HEALING. These stories come from Kelli's personal story and the stories of clients that she is privileged to hear as a relationship therapist.
During her own healing, Kelli discovered the artist in her in a way unlike the artist that existed before. She found herself drawn to the beauty and symbolism of handbags as art; as an expression of oneself that can be understood in a glance. Functional art with power: a billboard for us to use and wear and communicate about our views of the world and what is really important to us. Kelli believes in this power of “putting your money where your mouth is.” She also believes in the power of togetherness and the power to “Carry each other” through hurt and towards healing and thus, loves the symbolism in having a functional bag-line that can both carry items and “carry each other.” Unique from other organizations, ALL costs and proceeds go towards enabling our human spirits and inspiring social change!
S.O.U.L. is grateful to join hands with 2 social enterprises to make this bag-line possible. Smateria, LTD, employs Cambodian craftsmen and women using FAIR TRADE principles. They then make something beautiful out of local "trash." (We think the symbolism in this is awesome too! Trash can be broken down and REPURPOSED, RECYCLED, REUSED for something with a unique purpose, value and beauty...just like us and our tattered hearts, broken souls, and minds.)
The bags are then sent to our U.S. Distributer, 5 Accessories. 5 Accessories empowers and delivers "sustainable livelihoods for workers and their communities through the sale of eco-friendly and fair traded, locally made products from 5 countries."
We clearly thought the bags and everything they represented, how they looked and worked, were incredible already!
